If you love archery, then you would definitely enjoy a good shooting round or two on a regular basis. And if you have a wide backyard, it would be wise to setup your own archery range than to go to a commercial spot just to practice.
It is quite easy to setup an archery range in your backyard. All you really need is an archery target.
However, there are simply too many archery targets available in the market today. Choosing just one could be quite a task. However, here are good pointers to help you out.
1. Consider its durability:
Targets are prone to wear and tear. Of course, this is expected because archery's main objective to drive an arrow into the target. Always check the material the target is made of. Specifically ask the store attendant the average number of shots the target can take before it has to be replaced.
2. Density:
After a round of shooting, you need to collect your arrows and start over again, if you wish. If the arrows could be a little too hard to remove on the archery target, it could be a problem for you. Therefore, you have to consider the density of the material from which the target is made of. You don't want to spend more time removing the arrows than you have to. Worse, you could cause unnecessary damage the target if the arrow becomes a little too hard to pull out.
3. Is it customizable?
Every archer has his own requirements. And those requirements stem out of the archery skill he or she needs to masters. Sometimes, the archery target available in the market is not the one you need. Don't settle for that. Instead, ask where you can possibly have the target customized so you can use it as desired.
4. Weather resistance:
Targets are placed outdoors. Therefore, they should be able to withstand weather changes. If the archery target you chose is not weather resistant, then it would deteriorate faster than you could maximize its use.
Consider these four things when buying an archery target. Choose the archery target that specifically matches your needs. The improvement of your skills depends upon it.
Quick Tip #1
One of the most important factors that can make you a good archer is your level of concentration you have and the exact moment to release the arrow at the target. If you work on your concentration and release your success rate will go way up.

Quick Tip #2
Choose your bow size and style by what you are using it for not how it looks. If you're a bird or rabbit hunter you're going to want a lighter more accurate bow but if you're just shooting targets something larger and heavier that can shoot a good distance will do the job.
