Archery is one of the many sports that can be traced back to the olden times. In fact, it was a well-enjoyed activity ever since people knew how to hunt and make arrows.
Right now, there are a lot of archery competitions being held throughout the world. And in 1996, the Olympic committee adapted it as one of the official sporting events.
There are different types of bow used in an archery competition. The long bow, flat bow, and the short bow are three of the most common bow Equipment seen these days. However, at the Olympic games, only the recurve bow is used. Other variants of archery bows are crossbow and compound bow.
If there were different kinds of bows, there are also different materials used for making arrows. The regular arrow used in archery is a shaft with an arrowhead at the tips and fletching at the other end. The difference lies on the materials used for making the shaft.
The shaft could be made out of aluminum alloy, fiberglass, solid wood, carbon fiber, or alloy composite. In today's Olympic games, carbon or alloy arrows are used. As for the fletching, it is usually made of bird feathers, plastic vanes, or thin, sheet-like spin vanes.
Aside from bows, arrows, and fletching, one important part of an arrow used in archery competitions is the bowstring. Technically, any fiber can be used as a bowstring. However, Dacron is the most common material used in modern archery. On the other hand, linen is normally used in more traditional settings.
During archery competitions, players are required to wear protective gears. They need to have arm guards or bracers. Bracers protect the interior of the bow arm in order to prevent the player's clothing or any fabric from catching onto the bowstring. Aside from arm guards, chest guards are also used. Chest guards ensure that the archer's body doesn't cause obstruction on the bowstring when it's released.
In an archery competition, a good eye and a steady hand are essential to win. Without these two skills, it is impossible to shoot accurately enough to bag a world title. Intensive practice and discipline are required to be good at this sport.
Quick Tip #1
One of the most important factors that can make you a good archer is your level of concentration you have and the exact moment to release the arrow at the target. If you work on your concentration and release your success rate will go way up.

Quick Tip #2
Choose your bow size and style by what you are using it for not how it looks. If you're a bird or rabbit hunter you're going to want a lighter more accurate bow but if you're just shooting targets something larger and heavier that can shoot a good distance will do the job.
